The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) will, on April 21, 2026, commence a series of public hearings on LIBENERGY’s application for the review of electricity tariffs within its operational areas in Upper Nimba County and Southeastern Liberia.
In January 2026, LIBENERGY submitted its tariff proposals to the Commission for review and approval. These public hearings are being convened pursuant to Section 13.7 of the 2015 Electricity Law of Liberia, the Electricity Tariff Regulations, and LERC’s Administrative Procedure Regulations of September 2020.
The objective of the hearings is to provide a platform for LIBENERGY to present its proposed tariffs, explain the underlying cost assumptions, and receive feedback from key stakeholders, including local government authorities, customers, civil society organizations, and the public.
The hearings will be held in the following locations: Tappita City, Nimba County, April 21, 2026; Toe’s Town, Grand Gedeh County, April 22, 2026; Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County, April 23, 2026; Fish Town, River Gee County, April 25, 2026; Pleebo City, Maryland County, April 27, 2026 and Harper City, Maryland County, April 28, 2026.
In December 2023, the Commission issued a Large Micro-Utility Distribution License to LIBENERGY, authorizing the company to distribute electricity without discrimination against customers in River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and parts of Nimba Counties.
Commenting on the upcoming hearings, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Hon. Claude J. Katta, stated: “These hearings are a critical part of our regulatory process. They provide an opportunity for customers and stakeholders to directly engage with LIBENERGY’s management, ask questions, and provide input on the proposed tariffs before any final decision is made by the Commission.”
In accordance with the Electricity Tariff Regulations, any approved tariff will remain in effect for a period of three (3) years, unless otherwise reviewed by the Commission.
LERC encourages local government officials, interested stakeholders, customers of LIBENERGY and members of the public within the affected counties to attend and participate in the hearings.
