A two- man delegation from Iridis technologies were in Liberia from 2-5 October to commence work with the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission for the establishment of a Regulatory Database Management Information System (RDBMIS) funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Iridis Technologies, is a Ghanaian based technology firm that specializes in automated quality control of manufactured products and automation/general robotics. The firm was hired by the AfDB through a competitive procurement process to implement the project.
The Iridis Technologies delegation is in Liberia on an inception phase for the implementation of the project and a field assessment for the commencement of the system design activities. The head of delegation Dr. Kofi Sarpong Adu-Manu, Lead Consultant and Program Director, expressed Iridis Technology’s commitment to support LERC to ensure that all activities align with the Commission’s expectations.
Dr. Adu-Manu asserted the system will manage cases and provide up-to-date information. The system will also manage documents and help LERC deliver services in time operators, stakeholders, and customers.
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of LERC Dr. Lawrence D. Sekajipo speaking at a press conference on 5 October extended congratulations to the firm and appreciation to the AfDB for continuous support to the Commission to achieve this significant milestone in the electricity industry in Liberia.
In April 2023, the AfDB approved a US$255,000 grant to support the establishment of a RDBMIS at the LERC. This followed a request from LERC to the AfDB that while the Commission was making significant progress in developing the necessary regulatory instruments, the Commission lacked a robust automated regulatory database management system.
The RDBMIS will automate key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor utilities’ performance on benchmarks such as financial performance, technical and commercial quality of service performance, and quality of service delivery and operational efficiency.
Additionally, the system will automate LERC’s regulatory processes to enable the Commission monitor compliance in an accurate and timely manner, regulate the operational and financial performance of the licensees and facilitate the provision of timely and reliable information and data on the electricity sector and regulated entities to consumers, stakeholders, and the public.
